The Root Cellar is the primary Food Storage building in Farthest Frontier. With the largest passive bonus to Spoilage reduction along with the ability to utilize up to 10 Barrels for a further 50% extension of default lifespan, The Player will find that food stored in the Root Cellar lasts far longer than any other location.
Upgrade Information
Upgrading a Root Cellar to a Brick Root Cellar provides the following benefits:
- Increased Storage Capacity
- Improved passive bonus to spoilage reduction
- Increased health, improving resilience against attack and environmental damage
Basic Strategy
Root Cellars are the primary drop-off and pickup point for all forms of foodstuff. As such, the Player should endeavor to locate them somewhere relatively close to both food production buildings and residential areas to limit travel time. Grocers can make use of Root Cellars to stock markets, so bear this in mind as well when considering placement.
Like the Storehouse, the Root Cellar can also be an early-game target for raiding parties until larger concentrations of wealth have been created in settlements. Consider adding defensive structures to ensure that village stores are not depleted by raids.
NOTE: See City Layouts for examples of how others have solved this problem.
