    Game guide on spoilage https://www.farthestfrontier.com/guide/gameplay/food/#q08

Spoilage is an ongoing measure of decay of stored food and other resources. All items that spoil have a base spoilage rate that can be extended through a few different mechanisms -- conversion to a new resource type, Storage Buildings, and barrels.

Upon reaching Spoilage lifespan, any resources that were unused are lost and will vanish.

For a full list of spoilage rates, please review the main Resources page for the resource in question.

    Spoilage Reduction

    Conversion Buildings

    Storage Buildings

    • Root Cellar - Provides a passive increase to longevity of stored resources, significantly improved by upgrading to Brick Root Cellar
    • Granary - Provides a passive increase to longevity of stored grain and flour (not explicitly listed in the interface)

NOTE: Storehouses/Warehouses and Markets do not inherently increase longevity of goods, but can use barrels to increase longevity. Stockyards do not reduce spoilage nor benefit from Barrels

    Barrels

Barrels reduce the amount of spoilage of 5% per barrel, buildings which use barrels can add to this effect by keeping up to 5 or 10 barrels in use for a net increase of 25-50% of spoilage longevity.

    Additional Notes

Resources stored in the Trading Post do not currently spoil as of version 0.7.5.

This is understood to be temporary behavior that will change in future releases.
